A tragic road accident involving a Dreamline passenger bus and a trailer has left at least one person dead and others injured along the stretch between Taru and Mackinnon Road early Wednesday morning, September 23.
According to social media reports circulating shortly after the incident, the collision involved a Dreamline bus with registration number KDY 404L and a trailer with plate KBS 609R.
Images and video from the scene show the front of the bus heavily damaged and crushed against a shipping container on the trailer.
The deceased, believed to have been seated in the VIP section of the bus, died at the scene, according to preliminary reports.
The latest accident also comes amid growing concern over road safety on Kenya’s major highways.
The Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, one of the country’s busiest transport corridors, continues to record frequent crashes involving passenger buses, trailers and other heavy commercial vehicles.
Sections like Kapiti and Salama are repeatedly noted as hotspots.
Investigations typically follow these incidents, and authorities (including KeNHA) have faced ongoing calls for dualing, better design, and enforcement.
Recent Dreamline Bus Accidents
This is the latest in a series of accidents involving Dreamline buses in recent months.
On September 2, 2026, a Dreamline bus collided with a Super Metro bus near Kinungi along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, leaving several passengers injured.
Preliminary reports indicated that the Dreamline bus was traveling toward Nairobi when it collided with the Super Metro vehicle, with at least one private vehicle also reported to have been involved in the incident.
On September 16, 2026, at least five people were killed and several others injured after a passenger matatu collided head-on with a trailer at Kapiti Plains in Machakos County.
The injured were taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital as traffic built up along the highway.
Just days earlier, on September 12, 2026, a multi-vehicle crash involving a long-distance truck and two passenger vehicles occurred at the Kwa DC area between Salama and Sultan Hamud.
Initial reports indicated that several people were feared dead or injured, while traffic along the highway was disrupted for hours.
In July, at least six people died in a multi-vehicle crash near Kapiti Plains involving lorries, a passenger bus and other vehicles.
Police said preliminary investigations pointed to a dangerous overtaking maneuver by a lorry before the collision.
The highway also witnessed another major tragedy in June when a multi-vehicle crash near Mlima Kiu and Salama in Makueni County left at least 10 people dead and dozens injured.
Victims were rushed to Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital as emergency teams mounted a rescue operation.
