In a major symbolic gesture highlighting the historic partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States, King Mohammed VI officially announced the naming of the 1,055-kilometer Tiznit-Dakhla expressway as the ‘Donald J. Trump Highway’.

In a letter sent to the U.S. President, King Mohammed VI expressed his deep personal appreciation for Washington’s continued support, emphasizing how bilateral ties have deepened.

“While our relations have always been rooted in close friendship and loyalty, they have never been as vibrant and as fruitful as they have during your two terms as President, Your historic recognition, in 2020, of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara will forever be etched in the memory of Moroccans, from one generation to the next.”

Describing the route as the longest road infrastructure in all of Africa, the King underscored its strategic role in unifying the nation and serving as a key transit bridge between Europe and the African continent.

“It unifies our country, in much the same way your leadership has brought our two nations closer to each other in unprecedented ways,” the Sovereign added.

President Trump publicly responded to the gesture, expressing his gratitude to the Moroccan Monarch in a post shared on his Truth Social platform:

“Thank you to Highly Respected Mohammed VI, the King of Morocco, such a Great Honor! I look forward to traveling the entire length of this Great Highway someday, hopefully soon!”

Built to international standards, the strategic highway passes through key southern cities including Guelmim and Laayoune before reaching Dakhla.

In addition to its political significance, the highway provides crucial logistics infrastructure along the Atlantic corridor, reducing travel times, overcoming environmental hazards like flooding and shifting sands and accelerating cross-border economic integration.
