U.S. President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning to Iran in an early morning social media post, saying “No more Mr. Nice Guy” if Tehran fails to agree to a nuclear deal, a message that signals rising tensions with potential consequences for Americans.
Posting on Truth Social shortly after 4 a.m., Trump said, “No more Mr. Nice Guy,” while urging Tehran to agree to a new nuclear deal. He added that Iran “can’t get their act together” and needs to “get smart soon.”
The remarks come amid stalled diplomatic efforts and an ongoing ceasefire following weeks of conflict involving U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian-linked targets.
Talks stall as tensions remain high
Efforts to restart negotiations between Washington and Tehran have failed to produce results. A recent round of talks held in Pakistan ended without agreement, and a second round was abandoned.
The current standoff began on February 28, when the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes on Iranian military and infrastructure sites. Iran responded with retaliatory attacks targeting U.S.-linked assets in the region.
The conflict has since entered a fragile ceasefire, which Trump has extended without setting a deadline for a final agreement. He has said discussions will continue until a deal is reached “one way or the other.”
Trump clashes with German leader
Trump also responded to criticism from Friedrich Merz, who accused the United States of lacking a clear strategy in dealing with Iran.
Speaking earlier this week, Merz said Washington was being “humiliated” by Tehran and failing to show leadership in resolving the crisis. In response, Trump dismissed the remarks and suggested the German leader did not understand the situation.
“He doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” Trump said, adding that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is his administration’s priority.
The exchange reflects growing international concern over the direction of U.S. policy in the region, with allies urging a return to diplomacy.
Economic pressure and global impact
The ongoing tensions have had immediate effects on global markets, particularly in the energy sector. Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted a key channel for oil shipments.
As a result, oil prices have risen, increasing fuel costs and adding pressure to economies worldwide. For American consumers, this could mean higher prices at the pump and increased costs for goods and services.
The U.S. has also expanded sanctions targeting Iran’s financial networks, aiming to cut off revenue sources used to support its operations. Officials say the measures are designed to force Tehran back to the negotiating table.
The rising tensions between the United States and Iran could have direct consequences for Americans beyond foreign policy. Higher oil prices linked to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz may lead to increased fuel and transportation costs across the country.
