President Donald Trump underwent a medical and dental checkup at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday, May 26. He declared afterward that doctors gave him a clean bill of health.
The 79-year-old president, who turns 80 next month, traveled to the Bethesda, Maryland, facility for what the White House called a routine annual exam. He returned to the White House later in the day.
Trump Says Doctors Found Everything ‘Perfect’ After Walter Reed Visit
“Just finished my 6-month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY. Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff! Heading back to the White House,” Trump wrote on Truth Social shortly after leaving the hospital.
White House officials described the visit as part of routine preventive care. It is Trump’s third publicized medical evaluation at Walter Reed since he returned to the presidency in January 2025.
The frequency has drawn attention, coming about seven months after his previous checkup.
Trump has long projected an image of vigor, keeps a demanding schedule, holds long rallies, and stays active on social media late into the night.
Aides say he follows a healthy diet and exercises regularly. Still, questions about his age and fitness have followed him throughout his political career, much as they did for former President Joe Biden.
Some doctors who have not examined Trump have publicly raised questions about his health, pointing to his speech patterns and appearance in recent public appearances.
Some have pointed to moments when he seemed to slur words or pause during speeches. Others noted visible bruising on his hands in recent months.
The White House attributed the bruising to “frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin.”
So far, no full medical report from Tuesday’s exam has been released. Past summaries from Trump’s physicians described him in “excellent health,” with strong heart test results and a cardiac age younger than his actual years.
Those reports were approved by the president before going public, as is standard practice.
Walter Reed Has Long Served Sitting U.S. Presidents
The Walter Reed visit included both medical and dental components, as announced by the White House.
United States presidents have used the military hospital for decades because of its secure facilities and top specialists.
PresidentTrump received treatment at the facility after an assassination attempt in 2024 as well.
Ahead of his 80th birthday on June 14, Trump remains the oldest person ever elected to the presidency.
He defeated former Vice President Kamala Harris in November 2024 and took office, determined to move quickly on his agenda, including ending senseless wars.
In recent weeks, he has pushed hard on border security, trade deals, ending the war with Iran, which he started, and efforts to cut government spending.
The president’s allies and supporters have been dismissing opponents’ health concerns as politically motivated.
They point to Trump’s energetic public appearances and contrast them with Biden’s more limited schedule in his final year in office.
Critics, on the other hand, mostly Democrats, say the repeated hospital trips suggest closer-than-usual monitoring for a sitting president.
White House Says Trump Remains in Good Shape
White House spokesman Davis Ingle said ahead of the exam that Trump “remains in excellent health” and continues working nonstop.
“President Trump is the sharpest and most accessible President in American history who is working nonstop to solve problems and deliver on his promises, and he remains in excellent health,” Ingle said in a statement.
Health transparency for presidents has always been a tricky subject. While candidates and sitting presidents now routinely share some medical information, full records are rarely released.
