A teacher and a student have died after an aircraft operated by the Kenya School of Flying crashed in Kipeto, Kajiado West, on Friday, September 18, 2026.
Kajiado West Sub-County Police Commander Maureen Kuto confirmed the incident.
Securex Agencies Ltd reported the incident at 12:38 p.m., saying details about the aircraft type, number of occupants and cause of the accident had not been confirmed.
Authorities were responding to the incident as of the time of the update.
Residents were advised to keep away from the crash site, avoid handling any debris and follow directions from emergency responders and relevant authorities.
“An aircraft accident has reportedly occurred near the Windpower plant in the Kipeto area of Kajiado County. Details regarding the aircraft type, occupants and cause of the accident remain unconfirmed as authorities respond to the incident,” read part of the statement.
“Residents are advised to maintain a safe distance from the crash site, refrain from approaching or handling any debris and follow directions issued by emergency responders and relevant authorities.”
Details of the Aircraft Crash
Photos seen by The Kenya Times show the wreckage of the aircraft scattered across the crash site, with sections of the fuselage torn apart and an emergency responder examining the debris.
Kajiado West Sub-County Police Commander Maurine Jepkemboi confirmed the crash, noting that initial findings placed the incident in the hilly terrain of Kipeto.
Rescue personnel and members of the public responded to the scene shortly after the aircraft went down. However, the two people on board were found dead at the site.
Aviation authorities have since been alerted and are expected to commence investigations to determine the circumstances that led to the crash and its cause.
Other Past Crashes
The crash follows several fatal aviation accidents reported in Kenya in 2025 and 2026.
In August 2026, a Eurocopter EC130 B4 helicopter operated by Lady Lori Helicopters crashed near Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County, killing all seven people on board.
The incident came months after a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan operated by Mombasa Air Safari crashed in Kwale County on October 28, 2025, shortly after taking off from Diani. All 11 people on board died.
Earlier, on August 7, 2025, an AMREF Citation XLS air ambulance crashed into a residential area in Mwihoko, Kiambu County, shortly after departing Wilson Airport for Somaliland.
The crash killed six people, including four occupants of the aircraft and two people on the ground.
