Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has announced his exit from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking in his constituency on 4th June 2026, the lawmaker cited frustration and a sense of political alienation, accusing President William Ruto’s party of abandoning its original mission of serving Kenyans.
He has also revealed that his decisions will be guided by the interests of Kenyans rather than by personal or partisan considerations.
“The people in the government are in position but they have abandoned Kenyans, and that is the reason all of us moved away from the governing party. All of us have left the party. There is no more person on top of a wheelbarrow or taking a wheelbarrow anywhere, here in our place,” said Nyoro.
The economist’s departure from the ruling party adds to a series of recent political shifts involving leaders previously associated with UDA. A month ago, Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata exited from the party and later joined the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Nyoro Accuses Ruto and UDA of Betrayal
Nyoro has openly criticized President William Ruto’s UDA party, accusing it of abandoning Kenyans in UDA’s agenda propelled to power in the 2022 General Election. He argued that the party has shifted away from addressing the needs of ordinary citizens and instead become disconnected from the hustler-focused promise.
Speaking during a public function in his Kiharu constituency on Saturday, Nyoro said his decision to leave was not made lightly, insisting that it was driven by reflection on the direction the country is taking under the current political arrangement.
Nyoro said he had reached a point where continued association with the party no longer aligned with his principles. He maintained that his political decisions would henceforth be guided by the interests of Kenyans rather than party loyalty or political pressure.
“I campaigned across Kenya in 2022, and we made promises to people. Today, Kenyans are asking where those promises went. That is why I will not rush into another political decision before I know exactly what I am doing,” he said
The lawmaker also claimed that the Mount Kenya region is no longer aligned with UDA, suggesting a loss of regional support for the ruling party.
Nyoro Responds After He Missed the Finance Bill 2026 Vote
Recently, the MP has been criticizing Kenya Kwanza’s adminstration especially during the fuel prices implementations.
However, he has also been criticized by Kenyans after he missed out voting of the finance bill 2026 despite publicly claiming that he does not support it.
In a statement on June 19, Nyoro said he traveled outside Kenya on Wednesday evening, June 17, for engagements that “could not be postponed”, but maintained that his explanation should not absolve him from blame for his absence from Parliament during the vote.
