The National Police Service has escalated its investigation into the violent attacks that occurred on Friday, 3 July 2026, along the Kisii–Keroka Road in Keumbu.
In a statement dated June 5 2026, NPS confirmed arrests and the summoning of Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhanda.
The summon follows an alleged goons attack where some indivuals were captured throwing stones at Linda Mwananchi vehicles led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Friday.
DCI Summons Nyaribari Chache MP for Questioning
The DCI has summoned Zaheer Jhanda, the Member of Parliament for Nyaribari Chache, to appear before the Kisii County DCI offices in connection with the ongoing investigation.
“Furthermore, the Hon. Zaheer Jhanda, MP for Nyaribari Chache, has this morning been summoned to appear before the Kisii County DCI office in connection with the ongoing investigations,” read the statement by NPS.
Four More Arrested as Security Operation Intensifies in Keumbu
Police have confirmed that four additional suspects were arrested during a coordinated security operation led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Keumbu in collaboration with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kisii Central.
The latest arrests bring the total number of individuals in custody to seven, as law enforcement agencies continue to pursue what they describe as active leads connected to the violent events that disrupted transport and normal activity along the Kisii–Keroka corridor.
“The operation, led by the OCS Keumbu and DCI Kisii Central, has resulted in the successful arrest of four additional suspects, bringing the total number of arrests to seven,” read part of the statement.
NPS Intensifies Probe Into Political Intolerance and Security Gaps
Following the Friday’s incident, NP strongly condemned the incident, describing it as an act of political intolerance that will be fully pursued through the criminal justice system.
The Inspector General directed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to carry out an expedited assessment of the incident.
According to the police statement, further analysis of the footage established that the incident targeted a political group that was present in the area at the time of the attack. The video evidence, alongside initial investigative findings, prompted swift action by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kisii Central and Keumbu Police Station, who moved in to apprehend the suspects.
The seven individuals arrested are currently in custody as detectives continue with interrogations and broader investigations aimed at identifying all those involved.
