Tensions flared during the memorial service of late Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho in Nyandarua County, as Senator John Methu openly criticized President William Ruto, only for the situation to escalate when his microphone was abruptly switched off.

During the burial proceedings, Methu attempted to address the crowd and voice his frustrations with the government.

He introduced former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as the people’s president 

However, just as he was speaking, the microphone was turned off, preventing him from delivering his full message.

Amid the disruption, Kinangop Member of Parliament Thuku Kwenya stepped onto the stage and engaged Methu in a discussion while the microphone remained off, creating a scene that forced Senator Methu to cut short his speech.

“Me as, John Methu, an adult of sound mind, senator of Nyandarua County, I respect you as president, commander of the armed forces, as a parent because your children are my agemates, but even as I respect you, I don’t fear you.” said John Methu.

Earlier on, the widow of the late David Kiaraho acknowledged President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and other leaders present. Notably, she made no reference to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was present.

Gachagua Lectures Ruto over Tribal Remarks

Speaking during the memorial service, Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lectured President William Ruto and other leaders of framing people of mount kenya as tribal

“We gave you our votes but you were not called Njoroge or Kamau. Going forward, the President leaves the people of Mt Kenya. Don’t insult or abuse as tribal. Leave us in peace,” he added.

Gachagua also confronted Ruto for listening to advice from Kimani Ichungw’a and that Ruto had betrayed the people of Mt. Kenya and that he has now been rejected by the community.

“I told you that betrayal is not forgiven among our people. You chose to listen to Kimani Ichungw’a, now this community has rejected you,” he said.

The former Deputy President stated that although he was removed from office, by President Ruto, he remains firmly in the hearts of the people of Mt Kenya.

He compared the task of removing him from their support to cutting a Mugumu tree with a razor blade.

Gachagua went on to ask Ruto to seek peace and friendship with the people of Mt Kenya ahead of the 2027 elections.
