A flight training exercise ended in tragedy on Friday, September 18, 2026, after a small aircraft crashed in Kipeto, Kajiado County, killing a student pilot and an instructor.

The aircraft crashed near a wind power plant, prompting police and emergency responders to visit the scene. The wreckage was extensively damaged, with pieces of metal casing, luggage and other items scattered around the crash site.

Kajiado West Police Commander Maureen Kuto confirmed the accident, stating that two people were on board at the time of the crash.

The student died at the scene, while the instructor succumbed to injuries while being transported to Kajiado Referral Hospital.

“The first victim succumbed at the scene while the second succumbed while being rushed to hospital,” she said.

Poor Visibility Reported

Preliminary reports indicated that heavy morning mist may have affected visibility and contributed to the crash.

Police said the pilot had attempted to make a crash landing after encountering poor visibility, but the aircraft eventually went down.

“The preliminary cause of the aircraft accident is poor visibility that was occasioned by poor visibility in the morning as a result of the mist,” Kuto said.

The reported weather conditions are yet to be established as the confirmed cause of the accident.

Experts to Investigate Crash

Several people, including emergency responders, gathered at the scene as they examined the damaged aircraft and the surrounding area.

The scattered debris and personal belongings were among the items observed during the initial response. Police said experts had been called in to conduct further assessments and establish what led to the accident.

The investigation is expected to examine the aircraft, weather conditions and other relevant factors connected to the training flight.
