NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 26 – APA Apollo Group has completed the acquisition of majority stakes in Tanzania’s Meticulous General Insurance Company and Metro Life Assurance Company, expanding its insurance business beyond Kenya.

The Nairobi-based group said on Monday that the transaction had received all necessary regulatory and legal approvals, giving it control of both companies.

The acquisition expands APA Apollo’s presence in East Africa as it pursues regional growth in the insurance and financial services sector.

Meticulous General Insurance and Metro Life Assurance Chairman Protase Ishengoma said the deal would allow the two companies to draw on APA Apollo’s regional experience, technology and technical expertise.

He said the investment would support efforts to broaden their insurance products and improve services for customers and business partners in Tanzania.

“Our priority remains clear, to build on the relationships and trust we have established in the Tanzanian market, while using this new partnership to enhance the quality, accessibility and range of solutions we provide,” Ishengoma said.

APA Apollo Group Chief Executive Officer Risper Ohaga said the acquisition was part of the company’s 2026–2030 strategy to expand across East Africa.

“Expanding into Tanzania marks a defining milestone in our regional strategy and strengthens our long-term commitment to building a leading financial services platform across East Africa,” Ohaga said.

She said the group would combine its regional capabilities with local expertise to develop insurance products for Tanzanian customers and businesses.

APA Apollo, which dates back to 1977, operates in general insurance, life assurance, microinsurance, pensions and asset management. Its shareholders and international partners include Swiss Re and Hollard International.

The group said Meticulous General Insurance and Metro Life Assurance would continue serving their existing customers following the acquisition, while drawing on its underwriting capacity and product development expertise.
