Minet Group has appointed Sammy Muthui as Chief Executive Officer for the Eastern Africa Region, expanding his responsibilities to oversee the company’s growth across the region.
In an announcement on August 28, Minet Group CEO Joe Onsando said the appointment aims to strengthen the company’s regional operations while maintaining local leadership in individual markets.
“Minet Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Sammy Muthui as Chief Executive Officer for the Eastern Africa Region, expanding his mandate to lead the growth of Minet’s business across the region,” reads part of the announcement.
Minet noted that Muthui, who also serves as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Minet Kenya, has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry.
He has held leadership roles in strategic management, business growth, operations, and the management of complex insurance and risk programmes.
In his new regional role, Muthui will work with country CEOs to strengthen collaboration, share expertise and best practices, and build the group’s capabilities across Eastern Africa.
The group said the approach will support broader expertise, professional development, knowledge sharing and long-term growth across its Eastern African operations.
Who is Sammy Muthui?
Sammy Muthui is a Kenyan insurance executive who has served as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Minet Kenya since April 2017.
With more than three decades of experience in the insurance industry, Muthui has built a career in strategic leadership, business growth, risk advisory, and executive management.
He is the founding chairman and current trustee of the Medical Insurance Providers Association of Kenya (MIPAK), where he has helped strengthen the medical insurance sector.
As CEO of Minet Kenya, Muthui oversees the development and implementation of the company’s business strategy, working with the executive team and Minet Group to identify growth opportunities and drive sustainable profitability.
During his tenure, he has supported efforts to expand Minet Kenya’s business, strengthen its digital capabilities, and introduce customer-focused insurance solutions.
His leadership has also earned industry recognition, with Minet Kenya receiving the Overall Best Insurance Broker of the Year award at the Think Business Insurance Awards.
Muthui has additionally been recognized among Kenya’s leading corporate executives and was nominated for CXO of the Year at the CIO100 Tech Awards for his contribution to digital transformation.
