Safaricom has responded to a customer complaint about missing M-PESA transaction messages and offered guidance to affected users.

The issue was raised on August 27 by a customer who said she was no longer receiving M-PESA messages or balance updates.

“Why am I not receiving M-PESA messages? Even balance notifications are not being delivered,” the client inquired.

Possible Fixes for Missing M-PESA Messages

In response, Safaricom advised affected customers to check their phone settings for possible message restrictions.

Customers were directed to review the Screened/Blocked messages section under their messaging settings.

The company also advised users of third-party apps such as Truecaller to check whether the app had blocked M-PESA messages.

“Confirm if you have blocked M-PESA messages. Go to Messages> Message settings > Screened/Blocked messages. Also, if using a third-party app like Truecaller, confirm in the app settings whether M-PESA messages are blocked,” Safaricom directed.

Safaricom Explains What Could Be Using Up Your Data Bundles

In a separate post, Safaricom has explained some of the reasons customers may notice their data bundles depleting faster, following concerns raised by users over data usage.

The company said smartphones can continue using mobile data even when users are not actively using them.

“Don’t let your data go to waste! Go to your settings and check which apps are using data in the background,” It stated.

Safaricom noted that applications can communicate with the internet in the background by refreshing content, synchronizing information, backing up files, and checking for updates.’

Social media applications may also preload images and videos, while cloud storage and photo-backup services can automatically upload files.

Messaging apps can also download media depending on the settings the user selects.

The company said data consumption is determined by the amount of content accessed by a device, including activity that happens in the background.

Android users can check data consumption by individual apps and restrict apps that use excessive mobile data.
