‎Police in Embu West Sub-County have seized and destroyed 1,340 liters of illicit brew during a multi-agency operation targeting illegal alcohol production sites in Kawanjara Sub-Location in Runyenjes Constituency.

The operation was mounted following a tip-off from members of the public who alerted authorities over the existence of an illegal brewing location that was being conducted in a nearby thicket.

Deputy County Commissioner Mercy Gatobu said they immediately mounted a raid of the area, leading to the seizure of the illicit liquor commonly known as “Macore.”

She reported no arrests were made during the raid after the suspects fled into a thicket upon noticing the arrival of the security officers.

She, however, said they have already mounted a search for the culprits with a view of charging them before court.

Additionally, the DCC said they also recovered a motorcycle at the scene that they believe was being used to transport or distribute the liquor.

She warned individuals involved in the manufacture and sale of illicit alcohol to stop forthwith before they catch up with them, saying they will not condone trade that puts the lives of people at risk.

“We will not allow illegal alcohol dealers to continue operating, and those found engaging in the trade will be arrested and prosecuted,” she stated.

NACADA County Coordinator, Agnes Kanyingi, warned residents against consuming illicit brews, saying they could contain dangerous chemicals that may pose a serious risk to their health.

Ms. Kanyingi urged members of the public to continue providing information to authorities on illegal alcohol production, saying public cooperation was critical in dismantling the trade.
