The family says Meshack Wesonga, 56, sustained serious injuries on October 8 after he was allegedly made to fall from a physiotherapy machine when the speed was increased by the attendant assisting him.

According to the family, the incident left Wesonga with fractures in both legs and injuries affecting his spinal cord.

The family claims an X-ray examination showed that one of his legs had been fractured in two places, while the other had sustained a single fracture.

They further allege that Wesonga was left seated for an extended period after the fall, raising concerns about the medical attention he received immediately after the incident.

Wesonga’s relatives say that during the three weeks he remained admitted to the hospital, he received only basic treatment. They also claim their requests to have him transferred elsewhere for specialised medical care were initially denied.

The family says that after eventually being granted permission to seek treatment at another facility, they were required to pay an additional 25,000 shillings, despite alleging that the injuries occurred while Wesonga was under the hospital’s care.

The family is now demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the treatment provided to their relative.

Butula detectives have reportedly confirmed that they are investigating the matter.

Efforts to obtain a response from the hospital management were unsuccessful by the time of publication, as the administration had not commented on the allegations despite being contacted.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the extent of Wesonga’s injuries and the medical care provided, remain subject to further investigation.
