The government is working towards resolving outstanding grievances among families affected by the previous evictions from Mau Forest, amid growing pressure from more than 300 households that missed out on the recent Sh2.6 billion government compensation programme.

Internal Security and National Administration PS Dr Raymond Omollo now says the government was addressing the remaining problematic areas surrounding the Mau issue and would continue engaging the affected communities to a view to finding lasting solutions.

Speaking at a church fundraising event at Ntulele in Narok East Sub County, Dr Omollo said the government had received support from local leaders and residents in efforts aimed at addressing some of the hiccups that arose during the payout exercise.

His remarks come barely days after more than 300 families returned to the Mau Forest in Narok South, where they threatened to go back to homesteads they vacated in the forest after failing to appear on the list of beneficiaries under the government compensation programme.

The families have since demanded that the compensation process be reviewed to accommodate those they say were left out. They also threatened to relocate permanently to the forest if their grievances were not addressed.

Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia ordered the families to leave the forest and advised them to use established government channels to present their grievances rather than returning to the protected area.

However, Dr Omollo said the government remains committed to delivering services to residents through the existing administrative units, signaling continued efforts towards addressing local concerns through the existing government structures.

The PS also called on parents to prioritise education by ensuring all their children attend school consistently, saying the government had invested in teachers and the requisite infrastructure to support learning across the country.

He further urged parents to guide their children in understanding and practicing their respective religious values, saying this would help nurture responsible citizens and future leaders.

Dr Omollo challenged students to take their studies seriously and prepare themselves for leadership and other responsibilities in the future.

The PS also highlighted the ongoing government development projects including roads, water and airport infrastructure, saying they were being implemented simultaneously in different parts of the country.

He credited Dr William Ruto with what he described as a strong development record, saying the President should be given another term to complete his development agenda.

Other leaders who attended the fundraising event included Narok East MP Ken Aramat and Mosiro ward representative Mike Ololgeso.
