Graduands from Kirinyaga University’s School of Nursing and Clinical Medicine have been urged to uphold professionalism, integrity and compassion, even as they begin their careers in the healthcare sector.
The call was made by the Kirinyaga University Dean, School of Health Sciences, Dr. Immaculate Marwa, during the School of Nursing and Clinical Medicine Pinning and Oath-Taking Ceremony held at the University Auditorium.
Dr. Marwa challenged the newly pinned nurses and clinicians to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, emphasizing that ethics, integrity and honesty are essential to the provision of quality and trusted healthcare.
“As the healthcare professionals place patients at the centre of their practice by demonstrating empathy, compassion and respect in every interaction,” he said.
The Dean further emphasized the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality and protecting the dignity of those seeking medical care, reminding the graduands that every patient deserves equal respect and access to high-quality care, regardless of their social, economic or personal background.
“Healthcare professionals must remember that behind every medical condition is a human being who deserves dignity, compassion and respect,” she said, urging the new professionals to make ethical practice a cornerstone of their careers.
The Dean also encouraged the graduands to embrace digital technology and innovation, as the healthcare sector continues to evolve.
“Proficiency in modern healthcare technologies, including electronic health records and telehealth, will be increasingly important in improving service delivery, enhancing patient outcomes and keeping pace with changes in the industry,” Dr. Marwa added.
The oath-taking ceremony marked an important transition for the graduands as they prepare to enter professional practice.
