Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has donated computers to St James ACK Mapela Secondary School in Kamukuywa to strengthen digital learning and equip students with skills needed in an increasingly technology-driven economy.

The donation follows an appeal by the school administration for ICT equipment to improve the teaching of Computer Studies and give learners greater access to practical digital training.

Speaking during the handover ceremony attended by students, teachers and parents, Lusaka said access to technology was becoming increasingly important in education and urged learners to take advantage of the opportunities presented by digital skills.

He said education remained a key tool for transforming society, adding that equipping schools with modern learning resources would help prepare young people for further education, employment and other opportunities.

“Empowering our learners with digital tools is an investment in their future,” Lusaka said, adding that the computers would support academic performance while giving students skills required in the modern economy.

The governor said his administration would continue supporting schools through initiatives aimed at improving the quality and inclusiveness of education.

He noted that access to technology was essential in helping young people develop their potential and participate in an economy where digital skills are increasingly required.

St James ACK Mapela Secondary School Principal Dr. Emily Magambo thanked the governor for responding to the institution’s request, saying the equipment would address some of the school’s challenges in teaching Computer Studies.

Magambo said the computers would give students more opportunities for practical learning and help them improve their competence ahead of national examinations.

She added that the equipment would expose learners to digital skills that could benefit them beyond the classroom as they prepare for further studies and careers.

Dr Magambo added that the computers would also support the integration of ICT into teaching and learning, with students expected to gain practical experience in using technology.

The initiative comes as schools increasingly seek to equip learners with digital competencies to complement classroom instruction and prepare them for a technology-driven knowledge economy.
