Kenya recorded press freedom violations across nine counties in the first quarter of 2026, with Nairobi reporting the highest number of cases, according to data from the Media Council of Kenya (MCK).

Nairobi led with 13 cases, followed by Homa Bay with eight and Meru with seven. The figures placed these three counties at the top of the list of reported press freedom violations during the period.

Bungoma recorded six cases, while Nyandarua reported four. The numbers indicate that press freedom violations were also reported in counties beyond the leading three.
