Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has launched the construction of the Kimbo-Matangi-Ini Road, raising hopes among residents of improved connectivity and economic activity following the government's pledge to deliver on its 2022 campaign promises.

“I want to assure the locals that this road will not stop for the people to benefit. We must ensure that it will not stall,” he said.

The Deputy President urged Kenyans to support the government, saying it remained committed to serving citizens through development projects, including the construction of markets intended to stimulate local economies and create business opportunities.

He also cautioned political leaders against promoting divisive politics, urging them to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence despite their political differences.

“Let us embrace one another and preach peace and unity across the country and not let politicians divide us. We need peace in the country,” he said.

Kindiki added that he was ready to work with leaders across the political divide to advance development and improve the lives of Kenyans.

The road project follows a pledge by President William Ruto during a development tour earlier this year, when he announced that the national government would take responsibility for the Kimbo-Matangi-Ini Road.

The launch signals progress towards fulfilling that commitment, with residents expected to benefit from improved transport links and easier movement of people and goods once the road is completed.

Information and Communications Technology Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo called on residents to support the government, arguing that communities valued leaders who delivered on their development pledges.

“These people love development and they love those who fulfil development,” Kabogo said.

He also rallied the Mt Kenya region behind Kindiki, describing the Deputy President as a leader from the region whose role should be supported.

“Mt Kenya should support Kindiki. He is our son. From Githurai up to Mt Kenya, [we] must support him,” he said.

Juja MP George Koimburi welcomed the project, saying the road would contribute to economic growth and improve the lives of residents.

Koimburi said the government was following through on its commitments, adding that the construction project had been received positively by the local community.

“Ruto promised the road and he has fulfilled. We are very happy and locals are very happy for the project,” he said.

Denis Kungu, a local labourer in the area, said the construction of the road would ease the movement of people and goods.

He said the road would also help the region grow and reduce crime in the area.

"We are happy that this road will help reduce crime in the area and also promote the economy," he said.
