Watch: Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret

President William Ruto is expected to lead the celebrations, alongside senior government officials, diplomats, security personnel and representatives of various cultural groups from across the country.

Thousands of Kenyans have gathered at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret for the 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations, which honour the men and women whose sacrifices, resilience and service have helped shape the country's history and development.

Formerly known as Kenyatta Day, the national holiday commemorated the detention of the Kapenguria Six: Jomo Kenyatta, Bildad Kaggia, Achieng Oneko, Paul Ngei, Fred Kubai and Kungu Karumba.

Following the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, it was renamed Mashujaa Day to recognise all Kenyans who have made significant contributions to the nation’s struggle for independence and its subsequent growth and development.

President William Ruto is expected to lead the celebrations, which will feature military parades, including the must-see Kenya Air Force fly-past, cultural performances and exhibitions.

The event is also expected to draw local leaders led by Governor Jonathan Bii, senior government officials including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, diplomats, security personnel and representatives of diverse cultural groups from across the country.
