Lawyers link Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi's abduction to case against senior police officers
Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi was abducted on November 1, 2026, after being pursued by two vehicles, a Toyota Prado TX and a double-cab pickup, whose occupants were reportedly armed.
Concerns have been raised over the reported abduction of advocate Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi along Muchai Drive in Kilimani, Nairobi, on Sunday, with colleagues alleging that the incident may be linked to a case he is pursuing against senior police officers.
According to an account shared by colleagues, Abshir was abducted on November 1, 2026, after being pursued by two vehicles, a Toyota Prado TX and a double-cab pickup, whose occupants were reportedly armed.
Witnesses cited in the account said two of the occupants were dressed in what appeared to be police uniforms and wore bulletproof vests. His vehicle was later recovered along Muchai Drive, and the incident was reported at Kilimani Police Station under OB number 55/1/11/2026.
The colleagues further alleged that Abshir had previously faced intimidation linked to his involvement in a case against senior police officers.
On Tuesday, former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Eric Theuri called for his immediate release and urged Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen and Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo to intervene.
“An attack against an advocate is an attack on the administration of justice and due process of law. The involvement of police in extrajudicial abductions continues to prevail despite repeated assurances that they will end. The police cannot behave as if the life of a Kenyan doesn’t matter; they are not above the law,” Theuri stated in a post on X.

He also called on the CS, IG and PS to establish Abdi's whereabouts and ensure his safety.
“Intervene and urgently release our colleague from your agents,” Theuri further urged.
Meanwhile, Abshir's brother, Zakaria Abshir, has filed an urgent habeas corpus application at the Milimani High Court seeking orders compelling security agencies to produce the advocate in court and account for his whereabouts.
Zakaria said the advocate had previously received threats from officers allegedly linked to the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Counter Terrorism Bureau (CTB) and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The officers allegedly warned him to withdraw from the case or risk abduction and death.
The family is now seeking orders compelling the NIS, Directorate of Military Intelligence, National Police Service (NPS), DCI and CTB to produce Abshir before the court within 24 hours, together with any warrant or detention order authorising his arrest or detention.
