The attack occurred at about 3.40 am at Barabara ya Mchanga, where county enforcement officers and two Administration Police officers were manning the county government's cess collection point.

A Mombasa County enforcement officer, identified as Omar Rashid, was killed after a gang armed with machetes attacked a cess collection checkpoint in Likoni early Monday morning, leaving two other officers injured and a police rifle missing.

Mombasa County Police Commander Stella Cherono said the attackers were armed with crude weapons and that investigations had been launched to establish their motive and identify those responsible.
