The arrests were made after officers conducted an operation targeting individuals suspected of taking advantage of the political gathering to rob unsuspecting attendees.
The rally brought together party leaders, supporters and members of the public for a political gathering at the Jacaranda grounds. The large turnout provided an opportunity for the suspects to allegedly target people attending the event.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of eight mobile phones believed to have been stolen from rally participants.
The five suspects were detained in police custody pending arraignment in court while the phones were secured as exhibits to support investigations and possible prosecution.
The National Police Service has reiterated that political gatherings should not be used as opportunities for criminal activities, warning that individuals who exploit public events to rob, harass or target attendees will face the law.
Police also say they are committed to ensuring security and maintaining law and order during lawful public gatherings, including political rallies.
Members of the public have also been urged to remain alert during such events and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
