Police seize 927 bhang rolls in Kiambu, Kirinyaga crackdown

Police have seized 927 rolls of bhang in separate operations in Kiambu and Kirinyaga counties as the National Police Service (NPS) intensifies its crackdown on the trafficking and distribution of narcotic drugs.

According to a statement by the NPS, the operations were conducted through intelligence-led interventions targeting suspected illegal drug distribution networks in the two counties.

In Kiambu County, officers from Ruiru Police Station carried out a targeted operation in the Wataalam area, where they recovered hundreds of rolls of bhang.

“During the raid, officers recovered 596 rolls of bhang,” the police service said.

The NPS said the recovered narcotics were secured and kept as exhibits at Ruiru Police Station as officers continued investigations to establish and apprehend individuals connected to the suspected distribution network.

In a separate operation in Kirinyaga County, officers from Ciagi-ini Police Station, working jointly with National Government Administration Officers, intercepted a suspected drug trafficker in Ciagi-ini village.

“The suspect was found trafficking 331 rolls of bhang and was also in possession of crude weapons,” the NPS said.

Police arrested the suspect and took him to Ciagi-ini Police Station, where he remained in custody pending arraignment in court.

The 331 rolls of bhang and the weapons were also secured at the station as exhibits, according to the police.

The two operations brought the total amount of bhang recovered by police to 927 rolls, with 596 rolls seized in Kiambu and 331 in Kirinyaga.

The NPS said the operations were part of efforts to disrupt criminal networks involved in the distribution of narcotic drugs and other illegal activities.

“The National Police Service reiterates its relentless war against narcotic drugs across the country and remains resolute in dismantling criminal distribution networks,” the statement said.

The police service also commended cooperation between its officers, National Government Administration Officers and members of the public in supporting the operations.

“We highly commend the collaboration between our officers, administration partners and the public,” it stated.

The service urged members of the public to continue providing information that could assist officers in identifying and disrupting suspected narcotics networks.

The latest seizures come two days after two suspects were arrested in separate police operations in Kiambu and Embu counties, with officers recovering 1,087 rolls of suspected cannabis sativa.

The National Police Service said the arrests were made during operations conducted on Wednesday as authorities continued their crackdown on the distribution and trafficking of illicit drugs across the country.

In Juja, Kiambu County, police officers arrested a woman suspected of being a bhang peddler in the area. The officers recovered 800 rolls of suspected cannabis sativa from her possession.

According to the police statement, the suspect was taken into custody pending arraignment in court as investigations into the incident continue.

In a separate operation in Embu County, officers on patrol arrested a man and recovered another 287 rolls of suspected cannabis sativa.

The second suspect was also placed in police custody pending arraignment.
