Police in Tharaka-Nithi County have launched an investigation after the body of an unidentified woman was found in a bush near Makutano-Kathangacini murram road.

The body was discovered at about 9 pm on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, approximately 200 metres from the road in Murowaitangi area, Mukothima Sub-County.

According to police, the body was discovered after the area manager, Silas Nyagah, reported seeing a lifeless person lying in a thicket.

Police established that the deceased was an unidentified woman believed to be about 25 years old. She had visible bruises on her knees, while her clothes were reportedly found strewn around the scene.

Police said they suspected that the woman may have been sexually assaulted before being killed, although the circumstances surrounding her death had not been conclusively established.

DCI officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.

Investigations are underway to establish the woman’s identity and the circumstances that led to her death.

And a 38-year-old casual labourer died at Mbagathi Hospital after being allegedly assaulted by a mob in Majengo, Nairobi, over claims that he had stolen a mobile phone.

Police said Caleb Ochieng, who worked as a casual labourer in Gikomba, was attacked at about 9am on Monday, September 28, 2026, within the Majengo area.

Ochieng was allegedly subjected to a mob assault before he was rescued and rushed to Mbagathi Hospital for treatment.

He succumbed while undergoing treatment at the hospital on Tuesday, September 29.

The alleged assault was not reported to police at the time it occurred.

His body was preserved at the Mbagathi Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the assault and subsequent death, including identifying those who participated in the attack.
