The team, appointed by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba through a Gazette notice dated October 23, 2026, will examine gaps in school safety, discipline, management and emergency preparedness before proposing measures to prevent further incidents.

The recurring cases of school unrest have prompted the appointment of a 52-member task team to investigate their causes and establish whether previous recommendations have been put into practice.

Chaired by Professor Peter Mulwa Mbithi, the team has 90 days to complete its work, which will cover issues affecting learners, school administrators, parents and the wider education sector.
