Spiro and Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners (ESP) have launched the Women in E-Mobility programme in Rwanda to help women become electric motorcycle riders, start businesses and generate sustainable income.
The programme began in October 2026 with an initial cohort of 50 women, forming part of a pilot targeting 500 participants in Rwanda. The partners plan to expand the initiative to other African markets, with a goal of reaching 5,000 women by 2030.
Participants will receive motorcycle riding and road safety training, financial literacy, digital skills and entrepreneurship support. They will also have access to affordable financing, including lease-to-own arrangements, to acquire Spiro electric motorcycles and use its battery-swapping network.
The programme will connect participants with ride-hailing, delivery and logistics platforms to help them find customers and build sustainable businesses.
The initiative seeks to address women’s underrepresentation in the transport sector. In Rwanda, women account for just 4% of transport workers, despite research indicating interest among women in becoming motorcycle taxi drivers.
“Electric mobility is creating new economic opportunities across Africa, and we want more women to be part of this transformation,” said Anant Badjatya, Group CEO of Spiro.
ESP will contribute its entrepreneurship development expertise, helping participants access financing, develop business skills and grow their ventures.
Rwanda was selected as the starting market due to its growing electric mobility ecosystem and Spiro’s local presence.
