Senegal edged out Morocco 1–0 in extra time, thanks to a late goal from Pape Gueye, but the score hardly tells the story.

With the game locked at 0–0 in stoppage time, Senegal thought they’d won it, only for the referee to rule out their goal. Players and fans exploded. Seconds later, VAR handed Morocco a penalty, and that was it.

The Senegalese coach, Pape Thiaw, led nearly the whole team off the pitch in protest. For a moment, it looked like the final was about to end in total chaos.

Social media went nuts. Senegalese fans were filled with elation, celebrating the win and Mané’s cool head.

That AFCON final was by far one of the most entertaining, script-like endings in sports history.

Moroccan supporters, meanwhile, slammed the whole thing, calling it unprofessional and saying the walk-off hurt the game.

Most of the conversation online didn’t even revolve around the football anymore. It was all about the referee, VAR, and whether Morocco’s penalty or Senegal’s disallowed goal was legit. And it turned negative pretty quick.

Like this final needed anything else, American YouTuber iShowSpeed popped up disguised as the AFCON mascot, “Assad.” He pulled off the mascot head in front of a packed stadium, and the place just erupted. It was one of those “did that really just happen?” moments.

Now, CAF and other football bosses have to untangle this mess. We can expect big debates about VAR, refs, and how to handle protests when things go off the rails. But no matter what the official reports say, this AFCON final is already locked in as one of the wildest ever.
