Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament (MP) Zaheer Jhanda said his vehicle collection includes 20 to 21 cars, ranging from personal vehicles to those used for political campaigns and constituency activities.
In an interview aired on October 26, the lawmaker said the number varies depending on whether it includes vehicles assigned to his team and used during campaigns.
“I have maybe around 15. Maybe not 15, maybe more. Because when I put them together with the campaigns, about maybe 20-21 cars. I have my personal cars at home. Then I have my political cars, which I bought,” he said.
Jhanda identified his 2024 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG G-Wagon as his favourite vehicle, while explaining that the rest serve different purposes.
Zaheer Jhanda Reveals Favourite Ride in His Extensive Car Collection
Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda has attributed his passion for owning multiple vehicles to a childhood dream, saying he is grateful to God for reaching a point where he can afford the cars he once wished to buy.
The lawmaker said he had always aspired to own many quality vehicles, describing his current collection as a result of years of hard work and what he considers God’s blessings.
During the interview, Jhanda said his father dealt in car spare parts, a business that brought the family to Kisii, where he grew up.
According to the MP, his fleet comprises personal cars, vehicles used for political activities, transport for his sound system and cars assigned to members of his constituency team.
In July, Jhanda bought three Toyota Prado SUVs ahead of his 2027 general election campaign.
Zaheer Explains Why He Drives a Probox Despite Owning 21 Cars
The legislator also disclosed that he uses Toyota Probox vehicles to move around the constituency without attracting attention.
He said he has two official Probox cars, while his team uses three additional ones.
Jhanda explained that travelling in his usual vehicle can draw public attention because he is the area MP, making it difficult to visit some places discreetly.
He added that the Probox cars serve a practical purpose, allowing him to visit certain locations without people immediately recognizing his arrival.
“I have a Probox because, you know, in Mashinani, I am a very popular guy because I am the area Member of Parliament. So sometimes I want to go somewhere without people noticing me,” he said.
How He Rose From Being a Businessman to Politician
Zaheer Jhanda ventured into business before joining politics, starting with entertainment ventures in Kisii town, including a company known as Phatfarm and pool table businesses.
He later expanded into his family’s hardware business, overseeing outlets in Kisii and Oyugis before venturing into sugar distribution through a supply arrangement with Sony Sugar Company. His other investments included petroleum services and automobile businesses in Nairobi.
Jhanda first contested the Nyaribari Chache parliamentary seat in 2017 on a Wiper Party ticket but lost to Jubilee Party candidate Richard Tong’i.
He made a second attempt in 2022, running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, and won the seat.
Since entering Parliament, Jhanda has also drawn attention for his policy proposals, including calls to ban shisha and vaping products, which he likened to narcotics because of their potential health risks.
