Mashujaa Day took a different turn for Nairobi revellers who spent the evening enjoying live music, carefully styled outfits and an outdoor dining experience at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
The sold-out One Night Only: Brunch Edition brought together fans of American R&B singer Ne-Yo for a celebration that blended entertainment with fashion and food. The event ran from 3 pm to 11 pm, giving guests several hours to enjoy the performances and socialise.
Organised by Fenon Premium Productions and Radio Africa Group, with Stanbic Bank as the lead sponsor, the concert transformed the venue into a stylish setting designed around music, luxury and contemporary fashion.
Ne-Yo Luxe gives guests a fashion challenge
For many attendees, choosing what to wear was part of the experience. Organisers introduced a dress code dubbed “Ne-Yo Luxe”, encouraging guests to build their outfits around eight colours associated with different musical moods.
The colour guide included navy, bronze, olive green, gold, cream, burgundy, chocolate and black. Each shade came with its own description, from navy being “deep like the feeling of love” to gold being “made to shine”.
Cream was presented as “soft like a slow jam”, while black was described as “smooth like the classics”. Burgundy represented being “bold like the hook”, and chocolate was “rich like the bassline”.
Guests brought these ideas to life in different ways. Some women opted for satin dresses, corset-style gowns and outfits with high slits, while others paired bustier tops with flowing skirts. Straw hats added a daytime touch to some of the looks.
Denim also found a place among the outfits, with mini dresses, cargo trousers and wide-leg jeans offering more relaxed alternatives to formal wear.
Men leaned towards earthy colours and smart-casual combinations. Brown suits with black turtlenecks, navy shirts with white trousers and green polo shirts were among the styles that fitted the occasion.
Dining and entertainment beyond the stage
The experience extended beyond the music. Guests in the premium Regal Lounge found carefully arranged seating, chandeliers and fine-dining settings, while outdoor grill stations offered freshly prepared meat.
The venue’s decorations included floral arches, oversized chess-inspired installations and black-and-gold backdrops that gave guests designated spaces to take photographs.
Music played a central role throughout the event, with DJs Xclusive, Andy Young, Chunky and Jesse scheduled to keep the crowd entertained ahead of the headline acts.
British showband Sol & The Gang also featured on the programme, bringing an additional live-performance element to the occasion.
Gold tickets cost Ksh 15,000, while the Gold Couple package was priced at Ksh 20,000. Guests also had access to premium hospitality options.
A long-awaited return to Kenya
The concert marked Ne-Yo’s return to Kenya after 11 years. The singer, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, last performed in the country in 2015 during the third season of Coke Studio Africa.
Known for popular R&B songs such as So Sick, Miss Independent, Because of You and Closer, Ne-Yo has built an international following through his music and songwriting.
His Mashujaa Day appearance gave Kenyan fans another opportunity to experience his catalogue live, while the event offered a broader celebration of music, personal style and dining.
With tickets sold out, the concert brought together different elements of Nairobi’s entertainment scene for a public holiday experience that went beyond the usual stage performance.
