Early Life

Sam Lowry Hunt was born on December 8, 1984, in Cedartown, Georgia. His parents, Allen and Joan Hunt, raised him with his younger brothers, Van and Ben. His father worked in insurance, while his mother was a teacher.

Sports played a major role in Hunt’s childhood. At Cedartown High School, he participated in football, basketball and baseball. He became particularly successful as a quarterback.

During his senior football season, Hunt threw for more than 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns while also rushing for more than 800 yards. At the time, he viewed sports rather than music as a possible career.

Hunt did not seriously begin learning guitar until college. He taught himself to play while continuing to pursue football.

Hunt began his college football career at Middle Tennessee State University before transferring to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, commonly known as UAB.
