He grew up in Franklin Square, New York, as the youngest of four siblings.
His mother, Lillian, worked as a stenographer and later as a corrections officer at a county jail. His father, Hugh Hannity, worked as a family court officer.

Beginning in Radio
Hannity’s broadcasting career began in California.
In 1989, he received an opportunity to host a talk-radio program at KCSB-FM, a volunteer college station at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
His weekly program lasted less than a year before being canceled following controversy surrounding discussions about LGBT rights and the contentious nature of the broadcasts.
Hannity subsequently moved to WVNN in Athens, Alabama, where he hosted an afternoon talk show.
In 1992, he moved to Atlanta and joined WGST.
These early radio jobs helped Hannity develop the confrontational, opinion-driven style that later became central to his national career.
Fox News and Hannity & Colmes
Hannity’s major breakthrough came in 1996 when Fox News co-founder Roger Ailes hired him to join the newly launched network.
He was paired with liberal commentator Alan Colmes on Hannity & Colmes.
The program became an important part of Fox News’ early prime-time lineup. Hannity presented a conservative perspective, while Colmes offered a liberal counterpoint.
The show ran until January 2009.
By that time, Hannity had established himself as one of the most recognizable conservative voices in American television.
After Colmes left the network, Fox News renamed the program Hannity.
The Sean Hannity Show
Hannity continued building his radio career alongside television.
In January 1997, he joined WABC in New York, initially working in the late-night time slot before moving to afternoon drive time.
He remained associated with WABC until the end of 2013 and later moved to WOR in New York.
His nationally syndicated program, The Sean Hannity Show, began national distribution in September 2001.
The program eventually reached millions of listeners each week and became one of the most influential conservative talk-radio programs in the United States.
Hannity used the program to discuss politics, government policy, elections and current affairs while frequently offering his own conservative perspective.
The popularity of the program translated into major broadcasting contracts and became an important contributor to his overall wealth.
In 2017, Hannity was ranked second on Talkers Magazine’s annual Heavy Hundred list. He was also inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2017.
He previously received Marconi Awards from the National Association of Broadcasters for his work as a syndicated radio personality.
Hannity on Fox News
While hosting Hannity & Colmes, Hannity also expanded his role at Fox News.
In 2007, he began hosting Hannity’s America, a Sunday-night program.
Following Colmes’ departure in 2009, Fox replaced that program with Hannity, which became a major part of the network’s prime-time schedule.

Real Estate Empire
Real estate is one of the most notable components of Hannity’s wealth.
A 2018 report by The Guardian estimated that Hannity was linked to a property portfolio worth approximately $90 million.
The report said a network of companies associated with Hannity owned hundreds of properties across several states.
The portfolio reportedly included both luxury properties and lower-income residential housing. Many of the properties were acquired after foreclosure or through other discounted purchases.
Hannity has also invested in apartment complexes.
In 2014, he reportedly purchased two large apartment complexes in Georgia for approximately $22.7 million. The properties contained rental units with monthly rents reported in the range of $700 to $1,000 at the time.
The scale of these investments means real estate has played a major role in his financial growth beyond his broadcasting income.
Long Island Mansion
Hannity and his former wife, Jill Rhodes, purchased a waterfront mansion on Long Island in 2008.
The couple paid approximately $10.5 million for the property.
The roughly 10,600-square-foot mansion featured seven bedrooms, an 80-foot private dock on Oyster Bay, a swimming pool, tennis court and a par-three golf hole with a separate putting area.
Hannity eventually listed the property for approximately $13.75 million in May 2024.
He sold the estate a month later for approximately $12.7 million.
The sale represented one of the major real estate transactions associated with his portfolio.
Florida Properties
Hannity has also built a significant real estate presence in Florida.
In 2009, he and Jill Rhodes purchased a newly constructed beachfront penthouse condominium for approximately $4.75 million.
The property was sold in late 2020 for approximately $5.7 million.
After his divorce, Hannity purchased another Florida property.
In 2021, he paid approximately $5.3 million for a condominium in Palm Beach.
In December 2024, he expanded his Florida holdings again by purchasing a waterfront estate in Manalapan, near Palm Beach.
The property reportedly cost approximately $23.5 million.

Despite their divorce, they have continued to co-parent their children.
Hannity has maintained residences in both New York and Florida over the years.
