DPP Releases List of 37 Persons to Face Charges Over South C Building Collapse

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved criminal charges against 37 individuals, including the suspended Nairobi County Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning Patrick Analo Akivaga, over the collapse of Manzil Towers in South C, Nairobi.

In a statement on June 5, the DPP said the decision followed a review of an investigation file submitted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) into the incident that took place on January 2, 2026.

“Among those approved for prosecution is Patrick Analo Akivaga, who will face charges of Abuse of Office contrary to Section 101(1) as read with Section 102A of the Penal Code and Neglect of Official Duty contrary to Section 128 of the Penal Code,” read part of the statement.

The 14-storey Manzil Towers building, which was under construction in South C, Nairobi, collapsed on January 2, killing four people and leaving several others trapped.

DPP Moves to Prosecute Key Suspects in South C Manzil Towers Collapse

The DPP said there was sufficient evidence and a realistic prospect of conviction to prosecute the suspects linked to the incident.

Akivaga will face charges of abuse of office and neglect of official duty over findings related to the approval, oversight and regulatory processes connected to the construction project before its collapse.

According to the DPP, the decision to charge was made in accordance with Article 157 of the Constitution and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Act, following an independent assessment of the evidence gathered during investigations.
