Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has stated that there are ongoing peace talks between the United States and Russia regarding the Ukraine conflict, amid heightened public attention on the negotiations.
In a statement on Thursday, March 19, Luna said President Donald Trump’s administration is committed to continuing with peace talks and that no one would sabotage the resolve.
“The U.S. and this admin are still very involved in peace talks with Russia regarding Ukraine, and that is not going to be sabotaged by ANYONE,” she stated.
Luna said she is observing what she described as an orchestrated media campaign aimed at increasing tensions with Russia through planted information.
She noted that a significant amount of circulating information on the issue is false and emphasised that the current U.S. administration remains actively involved in the talks.
Americans’ Reactions to Luna’s Explanation
Some Americans have, however, criticized Representative Anna Paulina Luna’s statement on U.S.–Russia negotiations over Ukraine.
An X user, @BrettGrose, noted that British intelligence confirmed that Russia is providing targeting information to Iran, involving bases in Cyprus and the U.S., and questioned Trump’s removal of sanctions while aligning with Russia.
@IBleedOrange1 also disputed Luna’s mention of peace talks, arguing that Russia’s campaign in Ukraine and its intelligence support to target U.S. troops are being downplayed.
Further, @sharinfl highlighted Ukraine’s military advances in southeastern Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk, saying there is no reason for Ukraine to cede territory as suggested by the Trump administration.
Trump Holds Hour-Long Call with Putin on Ukraine and Middle East Conflicts
On March 9, former U.S. President held a notable one-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The discussion focused on prospects for peace in Ukraine and the escalating conflict in the Middle East, with Putin offering suggestions for a quick resolution in the region.
Trump described the call as very positive, noting Putin’s helpfulness on Iran while urging him to prioritize ending the war in Ukraine.
Kremlin readouts characterized the conversation as businesslike and constructive, with Putin highlighting Russian advances and advocating a ceasefire on favorable terms.
Zelenskyy Accuses Trump of Discussing Secret NATO Deal With Putin
In a statement shared on February 19 on his X account, Zelenskyy said he was aware that “Americans and some Europeans are negotiating a document between NATO and Russia”.
Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine’s potential membership in NATO should be discussed directly with Kyiv, not only with Russia.
The Ukrainian President acknowledged that talks might proceed without Ukraine’s involvement. Additionally, he noted that Ukraine would respond to any unexpected developments.
