KDF Recruits Undergo Tactical Drills in Final Stage of Their Training [PHOTOS]

Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) recruits are undergoing intense combat training in Baringo County to test their endurance, precision, and discipline.

According to a KDF statement, the recruits are in the advanced stages of their military training and are engaged in battlefield drills.

During the training, the recruits participate in Live Fire Tactical Training, a high-stakes exercise that simulates real combat conditions.

The training aims the equip trainees with the practical skills and confidence required for operational deployment, according to the KDF.

“The recruits, currently in the advanced stages of their foundational military training, are engaged in demanding battlefield readiness drills, including Live Firing Tactical Training. These high-stakes exercises simulate real combat conditions, equipping the trainees with the practical skills and confidence required for operational deployment,” part of the KDF statement read.

In reflection of the recruits’ understanding of the modern combat dynamics and technical competence, KDF said the recruits have shown proficiency in handling weaponry and execution of tactical maneuvers.

In addition, the recruits have been urged to sustain high standards and discipline in the military service by General Officer Commanding Western Command, Major General Jeff Nyagah, during an inspection visit.

Major General Jeff Nyagah also commended the instructors for their efforts in transforming the recruits from civilians to disciplined and dependable military personnel who are tasked with protecting and defending the sovereignty of the country.

Accompanying Major General Jeff Nyagah during the inspection visit was the Commandant of the Defense Forces Recruit Training School, Colonel Dennis Obiero.

Colonel Dennis Obiero reaffirmed that the Defense Forces Recruit Training School had an unwavering commitment to excellence, emphasizing that the vigorous training framework is intentional.

According to Colonel Dennis Obiero, the intense training framework for the recruits is designed to produce resilient, skilled, and dependable soldiers ready to meet the nation’s security demands.

Further, the continued drills in the harsh terrain and realistic combat scenarios will enable the transformation of the recruits not just as trained fighters but also as disciplined guardians of Kenya’s sovereignty.

Recruitment of the Cohort 01|25

On November 11, 2025, the recruits, comprising General Duty recruits and Tradesmen and women from the 47 counties, now in the final stage of training, were officially admitted to the Defense Forces Recruit Training School (DFRTS).

The recruits reported at the DFRTS in an event presided over by Brigadier Alphonce Ndar of the KDF in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The recruits were expected to undergo document verification, medical screening, biometric registration, issuance of a kit, and an initial orientation to prepare them for the foundational military training.

Handing Over of the KDF Recruits

On November 21, 2025, the official handover of Recruits Cohort 01/25 to the Commandant DFRTS was conducted following a successful verification and documentation process that began on November 10, 2025.

The handover of the recruits concluded the recruitment exercise that had commenced on October 13, 2025, with the successful recruits expected to undergo a six-month foundational basic military training.

In addition to the basic training, the recruits were also expected to undergo specialized training in their respective services, units, and formations upon passing out.

In attendance during the handover process were Brigadier Alphonce Ndar from Defense Headquarters, Chief Recruiting Officer, Brigadier Samuel Kimani, and Commandant DFRTS Brigadier Peter Kimondiu.

According to the KDF, the recruits who are currently in the final stages of their training will graduate upon the completion of the training.
