Sixty-eight named occupants of a parcel in Jomvu, Mombasa County, have been given 90 days to vacate under a notice issued by the Kenya Power and Lighting Company on 27 October 2026.

The notice covers LR No. Jomvu MN/V/222/2 and sets a deadline in late January 2027. It warns that eviction will proceed at the occupants’ own cost and risk once the window closes.

Kenya Power issued the notice under Form LA. 57, Rule 65 of the Land Act. The occupants are described in it as being in unlawful occupation without express or lawful authority, right or licence.

The named individuals are required to stop all activity on the parcel, including construction and cultivation. They must also remove their structures, clear crops and livestock, and vacate fully within the 90 days running from 27 October.

No compensation, alternative land or relocation assistance is offered to any of the 68 people named, according to a report on the notice.

Copies were served on the Deputy County Commissioner for Jomvu Sub-County and the Officer Commanding Police Division for Jomvu Sub-County, putting both offices on notice of the deadline and the enforcement that may follow.

Any occupant wishing to challenge the notice would have to file in the Environment and Land Court, which has jurisdiction over such disputes.

The notice does not set out what Kenya Power intends to do with the land after the occupants leave.
