Kenya's Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease cases have risen to nine after the Ministry of Health confirmed a new infection involving a 24-year-old man who was already in quarantine

In a statement on Tuesday, October 20, Health Director General Patrick Amoth said all nine cases belong to one known cluster, with no evidence of transmission outside the group.

According to Amoth, the patient is a close family member of Kenya’s first Ebola patient, who died after contracting the disease.

Amonth further noted that the latest confirmed patient was isolated at the first sign of illness, tested and immediately started on treatment after testing positive.

He went ahead to note that the eight surviving patients were responding well to treatment, with all showing marked improvement and remaining stable under close medical observation.
