Tanzanian Vice President Emmanuel John Nchimbi has resigned from his position.

In a letter dated Tuesday, August 25, and addressed to President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s office, Emmanuel Nchimbi said he had formally tendered his resignation.

Nchimbi also announced that he would retire from the country’s public service effective September 4, 2026.

The former Vice President also cited constitutional provisions under Article 50(2)(c) read together with Article 149(2) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania.

“Today, 25 August 2026, I wrote a letter to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, informing her that I have decided to retire from politics and public service,” he wrote.

“Accordingly, I will resign from the position of Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, pursuant to Article 50(2)(c), read together with Article 149(2) of the Constitution, effective 4 September 2026.”
