Njomo wants the court to stop the National Assembly and the Senate from forwarding the Elections (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2024, also known as Senate Bill No. 29 of 2024, to the President in a form that removes the legal obligation to livestream election results announced at polling stations.

The High Court has given the State and electoral officials seven days to respond to a petition seeking to block Parliament from sending an elections amendment Bill to President William Ruto for assent if it removes the requirement for live-streaming results announced at polling stations.

Justice David Mburu certified the petition filed by lawyer John Muremi Njomo as urgent and directed the State Law Office, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and two other respondents to file their responses within seven days.

In directions issued on Friday, October 23, 2026, the judge ordered Njomo to physically serve the petition, application and court directions on the respondents within two days.
