Malala said DCP had settled on Sifuna as its preferred candidate to represent the Opposition in the race against President William Ruto and was reaching out to other leaders to build consensus around his candidacy.

The meeting that Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) Party Leader Kalonzo is set to have with Citizens Party (DCP) Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has resulted in a political storm following speculation that he will be briefed to back down for Senator Edwin Sifuna.

It is the matter of Kalonzo finding himself in a defensive position that led his party to dismiss claims by DCP Party Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala that the party will meet with him to persuade him to support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s 2027 presidential bid.

Wiper, through its party spokesperson, lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, rejected Malala’s remarks shortly after the DCP deputy leader announced the planned meeting.
