Marwa’s tenure is expected to focus on advancing the Commission’s river clean-up and rehabilitation agenda, as well as supporting environmental conservation and climate resilience initiatives across Nairobi.
President William Ruto has appointed former Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa as the new Chairperson of the Nairobi Rivers Commission for a three-year term effective October 16, 2026.
In a Gazette notice, President Ruto revoked the appointment of his predecessor, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, with immediate effect.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 131 of the Constitution, as read with Section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Nelson Marwa to be the Chairperson of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, for a period of three years, with effect from October 16,” the notice reads in part.
