Amy Ellen Jones is an English professional cricketer born on 13 June 1993 in Solihull, West Midlands, and raised in nearby Sutton Coldfield.

A right-handed batter and specialist wicket-keeper, she has represented England since her international debut in 2013 and holds a central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board.

She currently plays domestically for The Blaze and Birmingham Phoenix, and has featured for teams including Warwickshire, Central Sparks, Perth Scorchers and others in franchise competitions such as the Women’s Big Bash League and The Hundred.

Jones first experienced organised sport playing football for a boys’ team at Aston Villa before joining Walmley Cricket Club, progressing rapidly through the Warwickshire pathway and England development programmes.

    Siblings

    Amy has two younger siblings with whom she shares a close family bond.

    Her sister is Emily Jones, who informed Amy of their mother Helen’s sudden death in March 2023 while Amy was in Australia.

    Emily has been described in reports as working as an anchor in England, and the sisters maintain a strong emotional connection, often sharing moments that reflect their support for one another.

    Her brother is Toby Jones, who was living in China at the time of their mother’s passing and keeps a relatively private life.

    Career

    Jones made her One Day International debut for England on 1 February 2013 against Sri Lanka during the Women’s World Cup, scoring 41 in a match that went to the final ball.

    Her T20 International debut followed later that year on 5 July against Pakistan.

    For several years she served mainly as a reserve to Sarah Taylor, appearing intermittently as a specialist batter while continuing to develop domestically with Warwickshire from 2008 onwards and in competitions such as the Kia Super League with Loughborough Lightning.

    She earned an early ECB central contract and gradually forced her way into regular selection.

    After Taylor’s retirement she assumed the first-choice wicket-keeping role full-time and made her Test debut on 18 July 2019 against Australia.

    Jones has since become a mainstay across all formats, occasionally captaining England in the absence of regular leaders such as during the 2022 white-ball series against India.

    She has featured in major tournaments including World Cups, Commonwealth Games and Ashes series, and has played franchise cricket for sides including Sydney Sixers, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Thunder, Melbourne Stars and Birmingham Phoenix.

    In 2025 she reached significant milestones by scoring her first two ODI centuries in consecutive matches against the West Indies (122 and 129), becoming part of the first opening pair in ODI history—men’s or women’s—to post back-to-back hundreds.

    Accolades

    Jones was named the Professional Cricketers’ Association Player of the Year for the 2022 Charlotte Edwards Cup after topping the run charts with 289 runs in eight matches for Central Sparks.

    In 2021 she won the Walter Lawrence Women’s Award.

    She has held successive ECB central contracts, including a two-year deal covering 2025 and 2026, underscoring her status as a senior member of the England setup.

    Career milestones include completing 100 T20Is, 100 ODIs and more than 200 international appearances, as well as surpassing previous records for dismissals by an England women’s wicket-keeper.

    Her back-to-back ODI centuries in 2025 and consistent domestic form further highlight her standing as one of England’s most experienced and reliable wicket-keeper batters.
