Dhruv Chand Jurel is an Indian international cricketer born on 21 January 2001 in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

A right-handed wicket-keeper-batter, he represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

He made his Test debut for India against England in Rajkot on 15 February 2024 and his T20I debut against Zimbabwe later that year.

Coming from a modest family with a strong military background, Jurel overcame early financial hardships and his father’s initial preference for an army career to pursue cricket.

At the age of five he underwent plastic surgery after his left leg was trapped under a bus tyre.

    Dhruv has one elder sister, Neeru Jurel. She was married in February 2020.

    Family accounts note that she supported her brother’s early cricket ambitions by regularly dropping him off and picking him up from training sessions.

    The siblings share a close bond, and Jurel has publicly shared moments involving his sister and brother-in-law on social media.

    Career

    Jurel rose through Uttar Pradesh’s age-group sides at the Under-14, Under-16 and Under-19 levels.

    He captained India to victory in the 2019 Under-19 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and served as vice-captain of the Indian side that finished runners-up at the 2020 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa.

    He made his T20 debut for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in January 2021 and his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy in February 2022.

    Rajasthan Royals acquired him at the 2022 IPL auction for his base price of ₹20 lakh.

    He made his IPL debut in 2023 and established himself as a useful middle-order finisher and wicket-keeper.

    In the international arena he impressed on Test debut with 46 against England and followed it with a match-winning contribution of 90 and 39 not out in the next Test at Ranchi, earning Player of the Match.

    He has since scored two Test centuries—one against West Indies in Ahmedabad in October 2025 and an unbeaten 115 against Sri Lanka in Colombo in August 2026—while continuing to feature for Rajasthan Royals and Uttar Pradesh.

    He has also captained Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy.

    Accolades

    Jurel’s early leadership success includes the 2019 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup title.

    He was part of the Indian team that reached the final of the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup.

    In senior cricket he earned the Player of the Match award in only his second Test for his decisive contributions against England in Ranchi in 2024.

    He has registered two Test centuries and multiple half-centuries in the longest format, along with consistent domestic and IPL performances that led to high-value retention by Rajasthan Royals.
