Gor Mahia face Homeboyz test as AFC Leopards visit Mara Sugar in midweek action
With the league still in its early stages, Wednesday’s six fixtures offer clubs a chance to establish momentum, address slow starts and strengthen their positions before the campaign gathers pace.
The FKF Premier League returns with six fixtures on Wednesday as Match Week Four gets underway, with Gor Mahia seeking to maintain their perfect start while AFC Leopards face a demanding away test against Mara Sugar.
Gor lead the standings after winning their opening three matches, but their trip to Kakamega Homeboyz presents a different challenge. Leopards, meanwhile, will be looking to close the gap on the leaders when they travel to Narok, while several sides at the other end of the table chase their first victories of the campaign.
Kakamega Homeboyz vs Gor Mahia – 2:00 pm, Bukhungu Stadium
Gor Mahia travel to Bukhungu Stadium aiming to make it four wins from four after an impressive start to the season. The record league champions have beaten Murang’a Seal, APS Bomet and Bandari to collect nine points and establish themselves as early title contenders.
Head coach Charles Akonnor has hinted at making one or two changes to his side, with some players having played extended minutes in recent matches. The Ghanaian tactician is keen to give other members of his squad an opportunity while maintaining the team’s momentum.
“This time around there will be one or two changes in the squad because some of the players have played 90 minutes and more, so we want to give those who came a chance. As a team, we know what we are doing, and we are not worried about giving any other player a chance to play,” Akonnor said.

Captain Sylvester Owino acknowledged the difficulty of facing Homeboyz on their own turf but expressed confidence in Gor’s preparations.
“Homeboyz away has been a tough fixture for us. Although we have prepared adequately for the match, hopefully we are going to give it our all and come back with maximum points,” Owino said.
Homeboyz have collected four points from two matches, beating Mombasa United 1-0 before drawing 1-1 with Ulinzi Stars. Their match against Tusker was postponed because of Tusker’s continental commitments, meaning the Kakamega side have played fewer games than Gor.
With home support behind them, Homeboyz will be looking to hand the league leaders their first setback of the campaign.
Mara Sugar vs AFC Leopards - 4:15 pm, William Ole Ntimama Stadium
AFC Leopards face a stern examination when they visit Mara Sugar in Narok, with both sides looking to strengthen their position among the early-season pace-setters.
Each team has collected five points from its opening three matches, recording one win and two draws. The result could therefore prove important in the battle to keep Gor Mahia within reach after their strong start.
Leopards will be eager to return to winning ways and avoid losing further ground in the title race. Mara, meanwhile, will see the fixture as an opportunity to use home advantage against one of Kenyan football’s most established clubs.
Their previous meetings suggest a competitive contest. In four league encounters, Leopards have won twice, Mara have claimed one victory, and the other match ended in a draw.
Both sides have shown they can compete, but Wednesday’s meeting offers a chance for one of them to create separation and build momentum as the season develops.
APS Bomet vs 3K FC - Raila Odinga Stadium, Homa Bay
APS Bomet will be searching for their first victory of the season when they take on 3K FC in Homa Bay.
Bomet have endured a challenging opening, drawing with Mathare United and Nairobi United before losing to Gor Mahia. They now face a 3K side that has shown encouraging signs in its early days in the top flight.
The newcomers drew their opening matches against Mara Sugar and Bandari before recording a victory over Murang’a Seal. That win will give them confidence as they seek to build on their promising start.
For APS Bomet, another dropped result would extend their wait for a first win and increase the pressure to turn draws into victories. They will need a more decisive performance against a side that has already demonstrated its ability to compete at this level.
Both teams have plenty to gain, making this an important contest for their early-season ambitions.
Murang’a Seal vs Nairobi United - SportPesa Arena 3:00 pm
Murang’a Seal return to action looking to respond after their defeat to 3K FC, while Nairobi United are still searching for their first win following three consecutive draws.
Seal will be keen to put the setback behind them and rediscover the form that saw them begin the campaign with a 5-1 victory over Posta Rangers. Their recent defeat, however, showed that maintaining consistency will be crucial as the season progresses.
Nairobi United have remained difficult to beat but have yet to turn their draws into three points. They will view the trip as an opportunity to make that breakthrough and gain ground in the standings.
The visitors’ ability to avoid defeat has kept them competitive, but a win would provide a timely boost. Murang’a Seal, meanwhile, will be determined to ensure their latest result does not develop into a poor run.
Bandari vs Posta Rangers - Mbaraki Sports Club
Bandari will continue their search for a first league victory when they host Posta Rangers.
The coastal side have collected two draws and suffered one defeat in their opening matches, leaving them eager to turn competitive performances into maximum points. Playing at home gives them an opportunity to improve their return, but they will need to be clinical in front of goal.
Posta Rangers arrive with renewed confidence after ending their losing run with a 1-0 victory over KCB last Friday. Mark Shaban scored a late winner in that encounter, giving Posta an important lift after a difficult start.
The visitors will now aim to build on that result and collect more points on the road. Bandari, however, will be determined to prevent Posta from carrying their momentum into another match.
With both teams looking to improve their positions, the contest could be significant in shaping their early campaigns.
KCB vs Mombasa United - Police Sacco Stadium
KCB host Mombasa United in a fixture that offers both sides an opportunity to respond after disappointing results.
KCB suffered a late 1-0 defeat to Posta Rangers last Friday and will be keen to recover on home turf. Having started the season with a draw against Nairobi United before recording a win over Mathare United, they will be targeting another positive result to remain competitive in the early standings.
Mombasa United, meanwhile, have had a difficult introduction to the top flight. After losing their opening two matches, they collected their first point with a draw against Migori Youth, but remain under pressure to secure their first victory.
The visitors need a stronger performance as they seek to climb away from the foot of the table. KCB will hope to exploit home advantage and return to winning ways, but Mombasa will be aware that another opportunity to collect points cannot be wasted.
With the league still in its early stages, Wednesday’s six fixtures offer clubs a chance to establish momentum, address slow starts and strengthen their positions before the campaign gathers pace.
