NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 31 – Kenyan fighters enjoyed a dominant outing at ANZA MMA Contenders 9, claiming 10 victories from 11 bouts at the Nairobi-hosted event, which featured athletes from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The event featured 11 amateur mixed martial arts bouts across multiple weight divisions, with several contests ending in technical knockouts and submissions.

In the main event, Kenya’s Norman Mondo defeated compatriot Martin Chite by technical knockout in their flyweight contest to cap a strong night for local fighters.

Samuel Laurian also delivered an impressive performance in the featherweight co-main event, submitting Uganda’s Olanya Richard with a Von Flue choke.

The victory further strengthened Laurian’s growing reputation as one of the fighters to watch on the local MMA circuit.

Joshua Ojow defeated Hamza Fahim by unanimous decision in another featherweight contest, while Asad Abdulkadir marked his return to competition after spending time abroad with a victory over Edwin Ndegwa in the welterweight division. Abdulkadir secured the win via a rear-naked choke.

The preliminary bouts also produced several stoppage victories for Kenyan fighters.

Shadrack Otieno defeated Tanzania’s Muhammad Salim by technical knockout in their lightweight contest, while Hassan Jaffar stopped Uganda’s Simon Okwera in the flyweight division.

Alex Njathi also registered a technical knockout victory over Dickson Mupe in the featherweight division.

In other bouts, Zach Chira defeated Edgar Ngua by unanimous decision, while Martin Mwanza stopped Ryan Peter in their bantamweight contest.

Abdirahman Swaleh secured a technical knockout victory over Tanzania’s Kazwenge Kayebe in the strawweight division, while Jace Ndegwa opened the card with a stoppage win against Maina Morgan.

The results underlined Kenya’s dominance on the night, while the event also provided a platform for fighters from neighbouring countries to test themselves against regional opposition.

Following Contenders 9, ANZA MMA is now turning its attention to its next professional fight night, scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2026, at Village Market in Nairobi.

The event is expected to feature professional fighters, with further announcements on the fight card and ticket information to follow.

The upcoming show will build on ANZA MMA’s efforts to create a pathway for African fighters to turn professional, build their records and gain greater exposure.

With Contenders 9 now concluded, attention shifts to December’s professional event as the promotion continues to grow its footprint in Kenya’s expanding combat sports scene.
