Migori Youth claim historic first top-flight win as AFC Leopards end home drought in Ingo Derby
Migori Youth secure their first-ever top-flight victory with a 2-0 win over Mombasa United, while AFC Leopards beat Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 to end their home winless run.
Migori Youth and Mombasa United experienced contrasting starts to life in the FKF Premier League on Sunday, with Migori claiming their maiden top-flight victory after a 2-0 win over their coastal opponents at Awendo Green Stadium.
Philemon Nyakwaka and Frederick Ologi scored in either half to hand Migori maximum points and end their three-match winless run, while Mombasa United's difficult introduction to top-flight football continued with a fourth consecutive defeat.
Both newly promoted sides went into the encounter searching for their first league victories. Migori had settled for three successive draws, while Mombasa were struggling to find their footing after losing their opening three matches.
Migori started with greater urgency and nearly took the lead in the third minute when captain Vincent Wanga rose to meet David Odoyo's set-piece delivery, but his header sailed narrowly over the crossbar.
Elly Owande threatened moments later with a powerful effort after collecting a loose ball. Mombasa responded through Rashid Moyo, whose header from Rodgers Oporia's delivery went over the bar with goalkeeper Victor Kamungo beaten.
The hosts continued to push forward, but Nyakwaka was denied by Austin Nyagol in the 15th minute, while Clinton Okoth's progress was halted by Peter Abiola's timely sliding challenge.

Migori resumed the second half looking to extend their advantage, with Nyakwaka coming agonisingly close to scoring his second goal seven minutes after the restart when his effort from a tight angle struck the upright.
Oduor kept Mombasa in the contest with saves to deny Geoffrey Odira and Nyakwaka, but the visitors' resistance was eventually broken five minutes from time.
Dennis Oguta released Christopher Koloti, who picked out Ologi with a cutback inside the box. The forward calmly finished to seal Migori's first-ever victory in the top flight.
The result lifted Migori to six points after four matches, while Mombasa remained without a point as their search for a maiden Premier League victory continued.
Ingwe end home drought with Ingo Derby victory
Elsewhere, AFC Leopards registered their first home victory of the campaign after defeating Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 in the Ingo Derby at Wang’uru Stadium.
Emmanuel Lwangu opened the scoring shortly before half-time, and James Kinyanjui doubled the advantage 11 minutes into the second half, handing Fred Ambani's charges their second victory of the season.
Ingwe had entered the fifth-round encounter unbeaten but had struggled to turn their performances into wins, drawing three of their opening four matches. Those results included goalless home stalemates against Bandari and Shabana.
The opening half-hour produced opportunities at both ends, although neither side managed to seriously trouble the opposing goalkeeper.
AFC Leopards gradually took control, with Adama Kanteh forcing Ibrahim Wanzala into action with a left-footed effort seven minutes after the half-hour mark.
Kinyanjui and Ronald Sichenje also combined effectively in the 40th minute, but Sichenje's attempt sailed over the crossbar.
The breakthrough came two minutes before half-time when Kinyanjui's expertly delivered corner found Lwangu, who directed his effort into the bottom corner to put Ingwe ahead.
The hosts maintained their momentum after the restart and doubled their advantage in the 56th minute.
Kanteh produced an excellent run down the left before delivering a pinpoint cross into the penalty area, where Kinyanjui timed his run perfectly to finish and register his first goal of the season.
Homeboyz tried to fight their way back into the contest but struggled to break down Leopards' defence, with the hosts holding on to secure all three points.
The victory marked AFC Leopards' second win of the campaign and extended their unbeaten start, while Homeboyz suffered their second defeat following their midweek loss to Gor Mahia.
In other matches, APS Bomet were held to a goalless draw by Murang'a Seal, while Nairobi United and Bandari FC shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
