Mwamba head coach Paul Murunga praised his players for their display in the final, saying their performance showed the team's readiness as they prepare for the new Kenya Cup season.

Mwamba Ladies extended their dominance of the Impala Floodlit women's tournament on Saturday, winning a fifth consecutive title after beating Quin Queens 20-8 at Impala Grounds.

The victory maintained the Black Shirts' grip on the annual tournament and added another trophy to their collection ahead of the 2026/27 Women's Kenya Cup campaign, where they will be seeking to defend their league title.

Quins had threatened to deny the defending champions another crown after building an eight-point advantage in the opening half.

Mary Chitechi opened the scoring with a penalty before Deleon Indombo crossed for a try to put the Queens 8-0 ahead.

Mwamba reduced the deficit through a Diana Omosso penalty before the interval, leaving the champions with a five-point gap to overcome in the second half.

The Black Shirts returned with a stronger attacking approach and drew level through scrum-half Edith Nariaka, whose try brought the scores to 8-8. Irine Opiyo then put Mwamba in front with another try, which Omosso converted to increase their advantage to 15-8.

Mwamba's improved second-half display was aided by players introduced from the bench, who increased the tempo and put Quins under sustained pressure. The defending champions gradually took control of possession, making it difficult for their opponents to regain their attacking rhythm.

Handling errors also repeatedly interrupted the Quins’ moves, preventing them from adding to their first-half tally as Mwamba tightened their grip on the contest.

Opiyo completed her brace with a second try in the closing stages, sealing the 20-8 win and ensuring Mwamba retained the trophy.

Mwamba head coach Paul Murunga praised his players for their display in the final, saying their performance showed the team's readiness as they prepare for the new Kenya Cup season.

“I congratulate the girls for the job well done. This was a good test for us, especially coming into the new season.

“Winning the Floodlit title for the fifth consecutive time gives the team confidence and momentum as we shift our focus to the Kenya Cup,” Murunga said.
