Shabana FC face FKF disciplinary action after fans set off smoke bombs at Nyayo Stadium
FKF warns the club of possible disciplinary action after supporters used prohibited smoke bombs during Sunday’s goalless draw against AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium.
Shabana FC risks disciplinary action if its supporters continue using smoke bombs and other prohibited pyrotechnics at matches, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has warned following Sunday’s clash against AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium.
The warning follows an incident in which some Shabana supporters set off smoke bombs during the FKF Premier League match, which ended in a goalless draw. AFC Leopards captain Kayci Odhiambo missed a second-half penalty after Shabana goalkeeper Pavel Ndzila saved his spot-kick, denying the visitors a chance to take the lead.
The result left both teams on five points from three matches, four behind league leaders Gor Mahia.
In a statement on Wednesday, FKF expressed concern that the incident occurred despite a notice issued to all 18 FKF League clubs last week, reminding them that flares, smoke bombs, fireworks and other pyrotechnics are prohibited inside stadiums and in surrounding areas on match days.
FIFA’s stadium safety guidelines also require venues to prevent spectators from bringing such items into stadiums. Its disciplinary regulations allow clubs and football associations to face sanctions for certain forms of supporter misconduct, including the use of fireworks.
“The Federation wishes to reiterate that the use of these items is strictly prohibited,” FKF said.

The federation has directed Shabana to immediately notify its supporters of the ban and take measures to prevent a recurrence. It warned that any further violations could attract disciplinary sanctions under the applicable regulations.
“Any further incidents involving the use of prohibited pyrotechnics may attract disciplinary sanctions in accordance with the applicable regulations,” FKF said.
FKF also expects the club to work closely with match organisers and security personnel to ensure supporters observe stadium regulations and safeguard the welfare of spectators.
“Treat this matter with the seriousness it warrants and work with the relevant match organisers and security personnel to ensure compliance,” FKF said.
