Shabana's Fathi blames poor pitch condations after Migori Youth draw
Ahmed Fathi, Shabana FC coach.
Shabana FC head coach Ahmed Fathi has blamed poor pitch conditions and heavy rainfall for his side's 1-1 draw against Migori Youth on Thursday, saying the weather significantly affected the quality of the game, particularly in the second half.
The Glamour Boys endured a difficult second half as the heavy rainfall made playing conditions challenging, limiting their ability to execute their game plan. Fathi maintained that his players gave their best despite the circumstances but admitted that the conditions affected their overall performance.
"The wether destroyed the game. If you give us a good pitch, we will perform well. You cannot control the weather," Fathi said.
The tactician further noted that his substitutes "failed to make the desired impact" during the encounter, with the changes unable to significantly influence the direction of the game.
Shabana are currently using Afraha Stadium as their home ground following the earlier demolition of Gusii Stadium for renovation.
The temporary relocation presents a challenge for the Kisii-based outfit, with Fathi acknowledging the need for his players to adapt to their new playing environment.
He, however, expressed confidence that the team would gradually adjust to the conditions at Afraha Stadium as he continues working towards implementing his tactical philosophy at the club.
Despite the draw, Shabana have maintained an unbeaten run in the league and currently occupy fifth position in the standings, having conceded only one goal so far.
Fathi is now turning his attention to their next assignment against eighth-placed Kenya Police this weekend, with the Glamour Boys targeting their first victory of the campaign.
The coach will be hoping to see his tactical ideas translate into better performances, particularly in the attacking department, as Shabana seek to convert their promising start into maximum points.
Meanwhile, Fathi has thanked the club's fanbase for their continued support, acknowledging "the role played by the supporters in encouraging the team as they navigate the opening stages of the campaign."
