"At the request of the prefecture regarding the availability of law enforcement, the LNR competitions committee has decided to postpone the relocated match in Nantes between RC Vannes and Union Bordeaux-Begles to Sunday," said the Top 14's governing body, the National Rugby League (LNR) said on Thursday.

The match between newly-promoted Vannes and the two-time European champions, initially set for 1330 GMT on Saturday. To fill the gap in TV schedule the Toulouse-Clermont game has been brought forward from Sunday.

Vannes had chosen to move the home match to Nantes' Stade de la Beaujoire, which has a 35,000-person capacity, significantly more than their own 12,500-seater Stade de la Rabine.

The French government last week deployed 70,000 security personnel across the country for marches called to protest the cost of living.

Clashes again erupted during those protests, a week after rioting that saw public buildings vandalised, hundreds of shops looted and 2,700 people arrested.

The unrest followed weeks of demonstrations by students campaigning for better learning conditions.

France President Emmanuel Macron warned  this week that a new wave of protests planned for this weekend could turn "risky", adding that protest routes would remain outside city centres to protect public order.

Paris Saint-Germain's home Ligue 1 football game against Lyon last Sunday was also postponed a day following a request by police.
